Lingering

It rained sporadically the last several days. Yesterday at dusk,  it had slowed to spitting and the clouds and air pinked an almondy yellow or yellowish marzipan. It caught me off guard. I’d gotten caught in the rain, walking for forgetting, and the tree I was under soaked through and no longer stopped the drops from soaking me. I walked home wet. When I got back to my apartment, the light had changed to the creamy, haunting glow. Like marrow and milk, hints of ruddling. It was acheful, like the last thrumming a struck bell makes before it’s cold metal and silent metal and only still metal again. Overtones and resonances that disappear almost as you hear them. A nasally quality, cruddy lightnesses in the joints. An image you might want to share with people you need to forget.
